Schopenhauer's Child

Congratulations to Adebowale Oriku on the publication of his new book, Schopenhauer's Child, available on Amazon.

'The death his younger sister goads Nigerian-born Adebowale Oriku into asking searching questions. In this remarkable book, he tackles the issues that have exercised the minds of thinkers of every stripe over centuries. Can religion be a consolation? Maybe (for some). Maybe not. Psychology? Psychoanalysis? Literature and the arts? Humour? Sociology? Science? Or the 'mother' - Sophia - of all disciplines: Philosophy? A self-described 'liberal' and 'sceptic,' with the power of imagination and what the ancients would call 'nous,' Oriku writes about how the death of his sister affects him and how he deals with it - or tries to deal with it. And, generally, drawing on a fund of experience, both theoretical and practical, he expands on Life, Love and Loss.'

Drama @ LSBU

BA Drama & Performance students are staging two Brecht plays this month, and the guest night for the first one is this Thursday, during the symposium (flyer attached).

There's a reception from 6.30 and the play starts at 7pm in the Edric theatre.  I hope you'll be able to come -- tickets are £6 (concession price), but you'll have to reserve in advance by emailing Gill Foster (fosterg@lsbu.ac.uk).
